oxas City Mayor Vicente B. Bermejo have high praises for the organizers of the “Senior Citizens Week Celebration” at the opening program held at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center here October 1.

He said his administration under the banner of “Sulong Roxas City” is supportive of the objectives and programs sought by the members of the elderly and senior citizens of this city. He knew that most of the barangays in this city have associations of senior citizens for the purpose of uniting themselves for the availment of the various benefits intended for them under Republic Act No. 9257, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act.

Other speakers were Mrs. Amelita Robles, Chief of the City Health Office and lawyer Cayetano Desales, a Balikbayan from Panitan, Capiz.

Mrs. Robles calls on all the members of the FSCAP that the city health office is likewise supportive of the healthcare needs of the senior citizens and the elderly.
Lawyer Desales, founder and first president of the United Capiceños and Paniteños in USA, talked on the differences of the programs between the Fil-Am and the Pinoy senior citizens organizations set-up.

Prior to the civic program a car caravan around principal city streets was held after which a eucharistic mass said by Rev. Fr. Joedol Dorado at the same venue.
Arcadio A. Astrologia, FSCAP president and Romeo A. Arceño, head of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs, also spoke on the updates and other programs of activities being undertaken by the FSCAP and the barangay-based associations.

Board member Esteban Evan B. Contreras II spoke of the role the senior citizens play in our community. He likewise is supportive of the programs undertaken district-wide by various senior citizens associations.

Highlight of the affair was the presentation of Certificate of Recognition to Condrado B. Bermudez, of Ellieta St., Roxas City, for being the oldest ambulant senior citizen member of FSCAP at age 97. He was likewise presented an award by City Councilor Carla B. Abela, chairperson, Senior Citizens Committee of the Sanggunian Panlungsod of Roxas City. (BPC)
