ROXAS City – The city government has extended financial help to some 73 indigent dengue patients.
According to Lorelie Suelo, acting City Social Welfare and Development officer, about 60 units of blood were given to indigent patients for free.
As of Saturday last week, dengue cases in Capiz already reached 2,154 — seven times higher than the 306 cases reported for the entire 2009, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The latest fatality was a three-year-old boy from Brgy. Burgos here, raising the number of dengue deaths here and the province to 18.
The Epidemiological Surveillance and Response Unit of the PHO revealed that this city still has the highest number of cases at 699 with 10 deaths. Following it are the towns Dao (178), Pontevedra (133), Panay (132), President Roxas (105), Pilar (102) and Panitan (102).
The other provinces have less than 100 cases.
Earlier, the city government announced that it will give “special prizes” to villages that stay dengue-free.
