ROXAS City – Two persons suspected for drug peddling and illegal gambling were arrested in separate operations recently.
The new Roxas City Police Office (RCPO) chief, Supt. Khasmir Disomangcop, identified the suspects as Ruben Perlas of Brgy. Libas and Rodelio Arrojado of McKinley Street here.
Perlas was nabbed on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 17 Executive Judge Edward Contreras on July 9.
The 68-year-old suspect allegedly violated Presidential Decree 1602.
During the arrest, the police recovered from Perlas P150 suspected bet money and several pieces of sliced paper stubs with handwritten number combinations for the numbers games “Daily double,” “Triple” and “Pick 3.”
Contreras recommended a P20,000 bail for Perlas’ temporary liberty.
On the other hand, Arrojado was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Luna Novicio Street in Brgy. 2 here.
The operation was conducted by the team composed of the Provincial Intelligence Group of the Capiz Police Provincial Office, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the RCPO.
Initially, the 33-year-old suspect managed to elude arrest but was pursued by policemen.
According to Disomangcop, police recovered from Arrojado two transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, cellphone and P17.35 cash.
The recovered items were brought to the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for examination.
The two suspects are currently detained in the lockup cell of the Roxas City police station.
On Wednesday, Disomangcop assumed office through a simple turnover of command. He replaced Supt. Leo Batiles.
A former deputy assistant provincial director for operation of Iloilo Police Provincial Office, Disomangcop vowed to continue the programs and projects of Batiles.
He also said he will enhance police capability by supporting Mayor Alan Angel Celino’s plan of creating a Special Weapons and Tactics team.
Celino, on the other hand, assured Disomangop that he will support the latter’s programs against illegal activities here.
Disomangcop, 46, is a native of Jaro, Iloilo City.
